Hello Linda,
Very sorry to hear of your son's tragedy. I have been reading about this narcotic as I, at only 36 years old have lost 2 friends due to this drug. I also know many other user's from my teenage years that will soon be added to the list.
Why is such a dangerous pill allowed to even be in the hands of people NOT in a terminal situation? We spend billions fighting marijuana, heroine and others yet we can find oxy anywhere.
This story is of one of my best friends. Jason Kaaz. He was like a brother to me. In high school we were inseparable. As we hit our 20's he had a son. Then the struggles of growing up caught up to him. He struggled with personal issues an used marijuana, alcohol till later cocaine and crystal meth. I chose to not sit around an watch the train wreck. I joined the armed services and eventually sent to Afghanistan. Leaving him behind.
I heard he had got help and sobered up. His family is well off and he himself VERY well educated. He had moved on to raise his son and make a life for himself. When I rotated back for the last tour of Afghanistan I began a search to find my friend.
One week later I received a phone call from my mother telling me Jason was in the obituaries.
It turned out he was given a pill by yet another "friend" for anxiety as he had just been laid off his job and was unable to sleep. Later, no one knows why, but he started to walk outside. A neighbor spoke to him, but Jason wasn't himself. Concerned they called the police. When they arrived Jason began to run (who knows what was going on in his mind then) of course they gave chase just to see why is he running.
They got him to the ground and searched him, nothing! Then again his breathing from the run started to be erratic. He passed away on the route to the hospital from pulmonary failure leaving his son, significant other and family behind.
I understand when someone dies in Afghanistan. We know the risks the day we sign up. However to lose friends here over a pill that everyone knows is dangerous is ludicrous is a true tragedy.
Even more than that the doctors that hand it out know too!! Truly makes me shake my head and ask: what for?
The reason I am sending a pic from the funeral service is so, maybe his death tragic as it is might wake someone up. Whether be government, doctor, or someone thinking not me! Might realize this is a very dangerous narcotic that none of us need to have around.
Truly sorry for your loss Linda,
Sincerely,
Aaron
